NYEP empowers youth in Northern Nevada to help youth who don’t have structured support to navigate the challenges of the world from finding them places to live, providing workforce training, and providing them with necessities like clothes.

Monica’s Story

Monica DuPea is the founder and director of the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project, a 100% privately funded non-profit in Reno, Nevada. In the interest of deploying proven solutions and nurturing future leaders, she stepped out on her own in 2007 and started NYEP, by opening the doors the Community Living Program, a 9-18 month 15-bed all-inclusive independent living housing based curriculum targeting 18-24 year old females experiencing housing instability, who are directionless, but willing and capable to make the most of opportunities that come their way.

NYEP gives homeless young women (18-24) in the Reno area a chance to reroute their lives through a structured program that provides housing and basic needs, life skills training, opportunities to practice new life skills, and the support and love of a family.

Our goal is to increase innovative housing programs services for youth that will effectively deliver safe housing, positive daily interaction, resource supports, skills training, monitoring and accountability to ensure youth are achieving desired outcomes.

Without the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities and achievements, many homeless young women will be unable to change their path and become contributing community members.

NYEP provides a housing based independent living program to young women to direct and empower them to break their cycle of poverty.
